What curriculum do we follow?

We believe the learning opportunities we provide for our young people are a key strength.

The curriculum provided by both care and education staff is firmly based on the Curriculum for Excellence, providing personalization, relevance and purpose and success.

The formal curriculum, all of which leads to national accreditation, includes English, mathematics, social subjects, science, CDT, painting and decorating, ICT, art, and health and well-being with a strong emphasis on outdoor education, physical activities and nutrition.

A new greenhouse has promoted learning in gardening techniques and basic horticulture. Young people have grown peppers and chillies. They have also had fun planting and then eating potatoes and strawberries.

The school is starting to use the outcomes and experiences of Curriculum of Excellence (CfE) as the basis of its curriculum planning. Thematic weeks provide excellent opportunities for care and education staff to share the outcomes and experiences across various learning opportunities. Increasingly all staff are taking formal responsibility for teaching literacy, numeracy and health and well-being across all learning.
