How do we meet complex needs?

Many of the young people who come to Troup are disenchanted with formal education.  Many no longer have trust in adults.  Achievement, attainment, success and progress are seemingly impossible.  Their needs may not have been accurately assessed and behaviour difficulties may have masked specific learning difficulties.

Nevertheless, we believe that the young people in Troup House have potential to achieve in traditional settings - both in terms of living and learning.

Troup House School undertakes a comprehensive assessment of each young person on admission and during the first 6-12 weeks.

This integrated assessment of needs leads to the development of Troup’s Integrated support plan (TIP), based on GIRFEC, which highlights for all – staff, young person, family and carers- what Troup will do to support each young person to achieve and thereby attain to their maximum.

Since each and every young person has a different set of circumstances and unique prior experiences as well as different aptitudes and abilities, the route to achievement and attainment is different for each young person and individual pathways are considered very carefully and creatively.
